An Introduction to Shopping
Carts
by Tom Antion
Have you ever gone to the store and thought you only needed a few things so you didn't grab a cart? Then, the next thing you knew, your hands were full and groceries were crashing down to the floor.... If only you had taken a cart when you went in, you wouldn't have been in that mess of a situation!
Well, shopping carts on your website are there to make it easier for customers to shop. Carts encourage customers to buy more items from you, because it makes doing so easier.
In addition to encouraging your customers to buy more from you, a shopping cart will calculate sales tax, shopping and handling, and other fees. If you wait to reply to customer queries about these additional costs, the delay will kill the sale.
The shopping cart system that I use is called Kick Start Cart. It allows you to enter your credit card number, buy the products, and receive authorization all in about fifteen seconds. It will also send a confirmation e-mail to whomever is shipping the product, without me touching a thing. A system like this is perfect for someone who travels a lot and does not have time to sit around entering numbers and expiration dates. The shopping cart will help to eliminate many of those problems and will boost your sales in the process.
This is a fast-paced world -- if you make it difficult for customers to buy from you or if you make your customers wait for answers about the things they want to buy, you are going to loose sales. Bottom line.
